LYNN BABCOOK RITES PENDING

Lynn Otis Babcook, 37, of 1426 Elm St., Grinnell, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said Babcook had been despondant for some time. The suicide took place at his home and reportedly involved the use of a .410 shotgun.

Funeral services are pending at the Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call for additional information.

The son of Otis Walter and Toni Peterson Babcook, he was born June 3, 1939. He attended schools at Olin, Ia., and was graduated from high school there in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1959. He later attended DeVry Technical Trade School in Chicago, Ill., graduating in 1965.

On Sept. 5, 1959, he was married to Donna Mae Woods at Olin. The family lived in Cedar Rapids where Mr. Babcook was associated with Collins Radio. In 1965, he became associated with the University of Iowa Physics Lab where he worked in space technology.

Mr. Babcook began work for the Xerox Corp. in 1968. At the time of his death he had been employed by Xerox as a products technical specialist. He had won several service awards.

He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the Grinnell Twirlers Square Dance Club, and Poppa Bob's Round Dance Club.

Survivors include is wife, Donna; his two children, Jeffrey Lynn, 14, and Lori Ann, 12; his mother, Mrs. Charles Hahn of North English; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Doris) Grafft of Olin and Mrs. Galen (Brenda) Buscher of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Marlene.

Note: Burial was at Antioch Cemetery near Anamosa.
