ORVILLE ATWOOD

Orville LeRoy Atwood, 80 died May 18 at Mercy Hospital Medcial Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service was conducted May 20 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, with the Rev. Bruce Dobyns of the First Christian Church of Perry officiating.

Burial was in Chester Cemetery in Poweshiek County.

The son of William H. and Isabelle Schivers Atwood, he was born Aug. 14, 1908, in Marshalltown. He attended and graduated from school in Marshalltown, then entered the dry-cleaning business in Tama and Maxwell. He later became a hotel/motel manager for Boss Hotels of Des Moines, moving between Florida, Colorado and Iowa. He retired from Boss Hotels in 1970 and went into management for himself, retiring permanently in 1975.

In 1987, Mr. Atwood moved to Perry to be near his daughter, and in December of last year he entered Perry Manor due to failing health.

He was a member of the Perry Moose Lodge and a former member of the American Legion.

Surviving are three sons, Donald of Illinois and Bill and LeRoy, both of Chino, Calif.; one daughter, Delores; one stepson, Ken Hull of of Van Meter; a stepdaughter, Julie Anderson of Longmont, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one brother and one sister.
