MERLE C. DIMIT
Merle C. Dimit, 83, of Grinnell died on Sunday, April 11, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services for Merle Dimit will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Grinnell United Methodist church, with the Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of the church officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner and vocalist Marvin Kelly. Pallbearers will be Raymond Innis, Gerald Kline, Lester Osborn, Paul Pohlson, Rick Ramsey and Lyle Wiley.
Fraternal rites were conducted by the I.O.O.F. Lodge and the Rebekah Lodge of Grinnell.
Graveside rites will be conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial in Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.
The son of George and Jessie Doolittle Dimit, he was born Dec. 24, 1909, in Chester Township. He attended rural schools and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1927.
On Feb. 27, 1940, he married Lois Deedrick in Grinnell. After his marriage, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
Following his discharge, he and his wife lived in Newton. The couple moved to Grinnell in 1955; he owned and operated Dimit Insurance Company and later became associated with Ramsey-Weeks Insurance Agency.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Grinnell, the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Eagles Lodge, and the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen J. Laughlin of Iowa City, and a grandson, David Laughlin of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clayton and Donald.
