ASHES OF OLD TIME RESIDENTS ARE GIVEN BURIAL HERE
-------------------------------------------------

The ashes of George Mahler and of Etta Newman Mahler, his wife, were brought to Grinnell Monday morning from San Diego, Calif., for burial in Hazelwood cemetery. One daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Rollins, of Michigan City, Ind., came from Califronia with them and was present at the burial. Another daughter, Mrs. Alice Lang, lives in San Diego.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahler died within thirty days of one another, Mr. Mahler on June 30 and Mrs. Mahler on July 29.

Mr. Mahler was engaged in the insurance business in Grinnell for a number of years. He built a home just across the street south from the present E.H. Spaulding residence. The house was moved away when the Skelly oil station was built.

Etta Newman was born in Newton Feb. 16, 1859, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Newman. The Newmans later moved to Grinnell, where the family resided until 1902 when they moved to San Diego, Calif. She was united in marriage to George F. Mahler in 1879. Mrs. Mahler was the sister of Dr. W.H. Newman and a cousin of Virgil Preston of Grinnell.
