RITES HELD FOR MR. WINCHESTER
Edgar L. Winchester, 82, of the Montezuma Senior Home, formerly of 322 East St., Grinnell, died of a heart attack Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of Assembly of God Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers were Bill Davenport, Hollis Elliott, Francis Graves, Larry Hines, Myles Olson and William Tish. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
The son of Douglas and Dora Troxell Winchester, he was born on April 13, 1905, in Wayne County, Ky.
On Jan. 2, 1927, he was married to Opal Millie Troxell in Oneida, Tenn. The couple came to the Rock Creek Lake area where they farmed until 1947 when the state purchased the property for the development of the lake. The Winchesters then came to Grinnell to live. Mr. Winchester then worked for One-Minute Washer in Kellogg, retiring in 1970.
He is survived by two daughters, Gladys Bennett and Pauline Williams, both of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Troxell of Monticello, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Kess Winchester; and five sisters, Sally and Lendia Winchester, Maud Smith, Flora Marcum and Allie Troxell.
