ALFRED WAHNER
Alfred Wahner, 91, of 817 Prairie St., Grinnell, died Tuesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell K. Boersma, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Leonard Pearce, organist, and Mrs. J.G. Christopher, vocalist. Pallbearers will be Don Fleener, Lloyd Harbin, David Robson, John Robson, Jim Wahner and Tim Wahner. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The son of Mathias and Emma Jane Feltwell Wahner, he was born March 30, 1884, near Marengo. He attended rural school. While he was young, his family moved to a farm southeast of Brooklyn and later to a farm west of that community.
On Sept. 23, 1913, he was married to Pearl Mae Workman in Des Moines. The couple had six children.
Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Wahner farmed northwest of Brooklyn, later farming for five years in Kansas. They returned to the Grinnell area and farmed until 1962 when they moved to Grinnell to make their home.
Mr. Wahner is survived by his wife, Pearl; six children, Mrs. Clifford (Vera) Van Wyngarden of Rte. 3, Grinnell, Mrs. Ralph (Dorothy) Fleener of Rte. 2, Grinnell, Richard Wahner of Des Moines; Mrs. Melvin (Verna) Harbin of Des Moines, Alfred Wahner Jr. of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Albert (Shirley) Lamb of Newton; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four grandchildren; one brother, Britt Wahner; and one sister, Anna Robeson.
