MR. SUTTON SERVICES HELD
Beckham Sutton, 82, of Rte. 3, Grinnell, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Parish, officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Tim Gould, Debra Anderson, Scott Wentzel, Kristi Schoen, Mark Wentzel, Jeffrey Mann, Susan Mann, Scott Sutton and Sheryl Sutton. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Chester Cemetery Association.
The son of Henry and Rilla Reynolds Sutton, he was born Jan. 8, 1906, in Preachersville, Ky. The family moved to Montezuma, then to Chester in 1918. He attended Chester No. 6 school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1925.
He was married to Alice Strand June 25, 1930, and the couple lived in Chester Township where he was employed by Poweshiek County as a road maintainer for over 36 years. He was a 50-year member of the Sonora Grange and was active in the Chester Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Beatrice Wentzel of Manhattan, Kan., and Bernadine Mann of Ames; one son, Ron of Marion; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Donald Wayne Sutton; a brother, Charles; and four sisters, Fannie Rempp, Grace Sutton, Beatrice Lizzio and Hazel Jones.
