MARGARET TONE
Margaret E. Tone, 70, of 90 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Thursday, July 25, at St. Francis Manor.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cliff Bevins, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Larry Groves, Dale Graff, Larry Innis, Ray Tokle, Kent Winburn and Russ Winburn. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
Memorials in Mrs. Tone's name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Grinnell or to Hospice Grinnell.
The daughter of Charles and Ethel Hubbard Zorn, she was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Montezuma. She was raised in Montezuma and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1940.
She was married to Lawrence G. Close Sept.24, 1940, and they lived in Davenport. On Sept. 24, 1946, she was married to Andres "Andy" Tone in Topeka, Kan. They farmed southeast of Grinnell.
Mrs. Tone was a member of the First Baptist Church, Harmony Ladies Aid and the Brookside South Council.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Close of Grinnell and Chuck Tone of Baytown, Texas; two daughters, Barbara Orr of Brooklyn and Charlotte Beeler of Colfax; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Harold Zorn of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Dorothy Mae Harbert.
