The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Dec. 11, 1906

OBITUARY.

Mr. James Jeffrey was born June 25, 1860, in County Down, Ireland, and died Dec. 1906, of appendicitis.

He came with his parents to America in 1879 and settled in the old homestead in Pleasant township, Poweshiek county, Iowa.

On May 23, 1890, he was united in marriage to Sadie Farley. To this union were born four children all of whom survive him; the oldest aged 15 and the youngest 9. He united with the Ewart Presbyterian church about twelve years ago.

Mr. Jeffrey was well known and highly respected in the community where most of his life was spent. He was an industrious man and a kind neighbor and friend. The last illness was very brief and his death came as a shock to the community. In addition to his immediate family he leaves one brother and three sisters besides many other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

The funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church at Ewart on Thursday at 1 o'clock and were conducted by his former pastor, Rev. W.W. Woodburn, of Grinnell. The attendance was very large. The remains were laid to rest in the Ewart cemetery.

"Watch therefore: for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh."
