RITES HELD FOR JANIE PETERS
Janie Peters, 76, the wife of Charlie Peters of Rte. 4, Grinnell, died Thursday morning (Apr. 25) at Friendship Manor, following an extended illness.
The daughter of James and Sarah Farley Jeffrey, she was born June 19, 1897, on a farm near Ewart. She received her education in the rural schools of the community.
On Jan. 20, 1915, she was married to Charlie E. Peters, and the couple lived on the same farm for 59 years. The couple had two children, Raymond J. Peters and Donald C. Peters. Mrs. Peters was a lifelong member of the Ewart Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Raymond; two grandchildren, Mrs. Nathan (Janis) Benesh of Searsboro and Danny Peters of Brooklyn; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald, on July 25, 1920; her parents; two brothers, Thomas Jeffrey and William Jeffrey; and a sister, Emily Thompson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peters were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Martin Gruneich, pastor of th Ewart Presbyterian Church, officiating. Vocalist was Gordon Van Donselaar, and organist was Julia Pearce. Pallbearers included James Jeffrey, Roger Jeffrey, Roger Peters, Richard Peters, Paul McConnell and Ronald Arnaman. Serving on the flower committee were Mr. Booker Kiner and Mrs. Clair Wells.
Burial was in the Ewart Cemetery.
