Mildred was born on April 6, 1918, in Grinnell, Iowa to Charles and Inez Darland Sutton. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated form Grinnell High School with the Class of 1934. On June 30, 1937, she was married to Raymond J. Peters at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed southwest of Malcom for many years and she also worked as a sales clerk for the Leland Clark Grocery Store in Malcom and the United Food Market in Grinnell. The couple retired in 1976, and they moved to Grinnell to make their home. She has resided at the Brooklyn Community Estates for the past six years.
Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. She enjoyed outdoor activities, fishing, camping, gardening, crocheting and baking.
She is survived by one son, Danny (Carol) Peters of Brooklyn; one daughter, Janis (Clarence) DeHoedt of Newton; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one sister, Mary Ellen Lemke of Grinnell; and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1991.
