RAYMOND PETERS
Raymond Jeffrey Peters, 75, of 1221 Hamlin St., Grinnell, died Wednesday, March 20, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frederick G. Harris, pastor of the New Sharon United Methodist church, officiating. Organist was JoAnn Schneekloth.
Pallbearers were Nathan Benesh, William "Abe" Bryan, Donovan Evans, Earl Lemke, Donald Milburn, Richard Moyer and Don Sumpter. Honorary bearers were Earl Engelbarts, Edward Hollman, James Jeffery, Arthur Mann, Bill McGinn, Jim Meek, Roger Peters, Ralph Reams, Ronald Reams, Ralph Strand and Ronnie Sutton.
Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery, Ewart.
The son of Charles and Janie Jeffrey Peters, he was born July 16, 1915, in Poweshiek County. He attended Grinnell schools, graduating from high school in 1934.
He was married to Mildred Sutton June 30, 1937, in Nashua. The couple lived in Moline, Ill., before moving to Malcom where they farmed until retiring in 1976. They moved to Grinnell in 1988. Mr. Peters was a member of the Ewart Presbyterian Church, the Pleasant Grange and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Janis Benesh of Grinnell and Danny Peters of Brooklyn; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Donald.
