RAYMOND PIEPER RITES TUESDAY

Raymond H. Pieper, 90, of the Kahl Home in Davenport, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, April 2, at the Kahl Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Iowa City, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Mark Bigelow, Richard G. Pieper II, Robert G. Pieper, David Shaw, Randy Shaw, Tom Shaw and Robert Redlinger.

The Rosary service was conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mr. Pieper's name may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The son of Joseph and Margaret Schmitt Pieper, he was born Jan. 25, 1898, at Kalona. He was married to Iris M. Shaffer at Richmond Nov. 8, 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Pieper lived in Richmond and Washington before moving to Grinnell in December 1928. He worked as a field inspector for the John Deere Co. for over 34 years. Following the death of his wife, he moved to Moline, Ill., in 1981 and had lived at the Kahl Home since 1984.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Grinnell Gun Club and the National Gun Club.

He is survived by his son, Richard G. Pieper of Bloomington, Minn.; a daughter, Patricia L. Shaw of Moline, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and three sisters, Hazel Redlinger, Juanita Redlinger and Leonida Redlinger, all of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Ardell Pieper.
