RITES HELD FOR BERTHA PIERSEL

Mrs. Bertha Piersel, 87, of rural Brooklyn died early Thursday at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.

The daughter of Charles Edward and Ida May Hawley Hatcher, she was born May 2, 1885, near What Cheer. In 1912, she was married to Ross Piersel in Oskaloosa. The couple lived at What Cheer and Keswick and, following the death of her husband, Mrs. Piersel moved to Brooklyn in 1957.

She was a member of the Christian Church of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Piersel is survived by one brother, Floyd Hatcher of Delta, Iowa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Harry Hermanstorfer; two brothers and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services for Mrs. Piersel were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Kenneth Siemens, minister of the Madison Church of Christ, officiated.

Burial was in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer.
