GEORGE KIRK GARWOOD

George Kirk Garwood, son of William and Emaline Garwood, was born in Benton county, May 8th, 1887, and died at Community hospital in Grinnell on March 21, 1953.

On June 12, 1907, he was married to Bertha E. Donley, at Vinton, Iowa.

In 1917 the family moved to Grinnell, where Mr. Garwood later became manager of the city gas plant, and where they resided until he took over the city disposal plant. After Mrs. Garwood's death on January 19, 1946, he worked at the Shaner Hotel.

Five children were born to this union--Mrs. Lowell Emmert of Malcom, Glen Garwood of Grinnell, Mrs. Murray Parker of Eldora, Verl J. Garwood of Grinnell, and Charlotte Arlene, who died at the age of 3.

On August 25, 1948, he was united in marriage with Ruth McDowell. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four children, 13 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Orpha Chapin of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Jess Johnson of Brandon, Iowa, and one brother, Charles Garwood of Vinton.

Mr. Garwood was a member of the Church of Christ of Vinton. In later years, while residing in Grinnell, he attended the Calvary Baptist church.

He leaves a testimony of his personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the James Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Isaac Johnson of Cedar Rapids. Music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. David Leeper of the Calvary Baptist church in Grinnell. Pall bearers were Bert Harris, Bert Whitaker, Fred Whittaker, Charles Hink, Dess Martin and Darwin Renbarger. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
