ANNA NEWBY MACY OF LYNNVILLE PASSES AWAY

(By a Staff Correspondent)
Lynnville, Ia., Jan. 19, Special:

Anna Newby Macy was born in Raysville, Ind., Aug. 7, 1869, and died at her home in Lynnville, Jan. 14, 1932, aged 62 years, 5 months and 7 days. The daughter of John and Martha Newby, she was the eighth of a family of nine children. She had been preceded in death by her father and mother, and three brothers, Frank, Edward and Albert.

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1878, and with the exception of one year spent in Ringgold county, has lived her entire life since that time in Lynnville and vicinity.

She was married Sept. 13, 1890, to Charles O. Macy, and became the mother of three sons: Carroll, Ward and Willis, all of whom, with their father, are living. In addtion she is survived by three brothers, Charles of Lynnville, Miles of Onawa, and Earl of Chicaago, Ill.; two sisters, Elizabeth Woodard and Minnie Parker, both of Knightstown, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Bryce, Gweneth, Eloise, and Janet.

Her life was one of service to her family, her church and sunday school, and her community. Scores of people, far beyond the family circle, have felt the influence of her presence. Her greatest pleasures were derived from the happiness which her own efforts were able to bring to those she loved. Her spirit will live on and on in the lives of those who have been closest to her.

The unspeakable loneliness her death will bring to her husband and family, will be tempered to some extent by memories of more than 40 years of true comradeship, when their troubles were her troubles, their joys were her joys, and when the times of Homecoming were the standard by which all other happiness was measured.

Funeral services were held from the Friends church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Willard Reynolds in charge, assisted by Supt. Moses Mendenhall. A former paster, Rev. Waldo Reece, a classmate, Frank Conover, Mrs. Roscoe Sparks, representing the Primary department of the Sunday school, and Mrs. Orland Davis, speaking in behalf of the Missionary society all spoke of the good Mrs. Macy had done in and for the different organizations of the church and community. The floral offerings were large and beautiful. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Waldo Reece, Mrs. Harvey Gause, Mildred Reece and Harlan Meredith, who sang "It is Well With My Soul." A duet, "When I Look in His Face," was sung by Waldo and Mildred Reece, and "In the Garden" by Willard Reynolds and Helen Gause. Pall bearers were Mrs. Macy's three sons, Carroll, Ward and Willis Macy, two brothers, Miles and Earl Newby, and a brother-in-law, E.B. Macy. Burial was in the Woodland cemetery.

Those who attended from out of town: Relatives, Judge and Mrs. Miles W. Newby of Onawa, Mrs. Minnie Parker of Knightstown, Ind., Earl Newby of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Macy of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Fritz of Des Moines, Loring Macy of Orkland, Prof. and Mrs. Ward Macy of Palo Alto, Calif., and Dr. Willis Macy of Rochester, Minn.
