BLAIR MACY

Blair Macy, 77, of Windsor, Colo., a 1940 graduate of Grinnell College, died Feb. 28 following a fall at his home.

Private family services were conducted.

A native of Lynnville, he was born Dec. 7, 1917. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and received his degree in journalism from Grinnell College. Mr. Macy worked for a newspaper in Clear Lake, then joined the Navy in 1941, serving in the Pacific and the Far East prior to his discharge in 1946.

He was married to Genevieve Shaltis Jan. 4, 1947, in Cicero, Ill. They lived in Searsboro where he worked for Macy Bros., Inc.

In 1948, they and Mr. Macy's parents, Roscoe and Mabel Macy, bought The Windsor Beacon. Blair and Genevieve Macy assumed sole ownership of the newspaper in 1958. After selling The Beacon in 1972, they purchased The Keene Valley (Colo.) Sun in 1974 running the paper until retiring in 1982.

Mr. Macy was a recipient of the Sigma Delta Chi Journalist of the Year award in 1969. He also received th Gene Cervi Award for Courage in Journalism from the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors and the Outstanding Community Service Award from the University of Northern Colorado Department of Journalism. In 1983 he was named Colorado Newspaper Person of the Year.

He served on the Windsor Town Board, the Windsor Civic Committee, the Weld County Library Board, the Colorado Press Association board and the Judicial District Nominating Commission.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Tom and Tony of Windsor and Mark of Louisville, Colo.; and four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren.

His late maternal grandparents, C.A. and Sarah Jane Blair, and his late paternal grandparents, E.B. and Julia Macy, were residents of Lynnville. The late Helen Blair Hammond, retired assistant librarian at Grinnell College's Burling Library, was an aunt. His uncle and aunt, Howard and Harriet Macy, live in Lynnville.
