MAUDE ENOCHS RITES TUESDAY

Miss Maude Enochs, 83, of the Mayflower Home, died Wednesday evening at Grinnell General Hospital following an illness of three weeks.

Miss Enochs was born in Creston, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1888, the daughter of R. David and Alice Cool Enochs. She attended the Creston schools and was graduated from Lombard College, Galesburg, Ill. She later attended the University of Illinois Library School and, while a student, worked in the cataloging department of the university library.

After graduation from library school, Miss Enochs held positions at the University of Minnesota library at Minneapolis, the Masonic Library in Cedar Rapids, and the Grinnell College library where she came to work in 1928. She remained in the position of cataloger here until her retirement in 1955. In August of that year, Miss Enochs and her sister Lillian moved to an apartment at Edwards Hall, Mayflower Home. She served in many capacities through the Residents Association, the most recent of which was librarian of the Margret Alborn Montgomery Memorial Library.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational of Grinnell, the Historical and Literary Club, and Division III of the United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship.

Miss Enochs is survived by her cousin, the Rev. Hartley Enochs of Fort Scott, Kan.

Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Graceland Cemetery, Creston, with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mayflower Home chapel. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until Tuesday morning and for additional information.
