EDWARD M. GOLDEN

Edward Montgomery Golden, son of John F. and Elizabeth M. Golden, was born in Providence, Ill., April 22, 1858, and died at his home in this city, on Thursday, March 23. He came to Grinnell with his parents when eight years of age, and had lived in or near this city the most of the time until his death. He was united in marriage to Anna M. Stanley of Lynnville, Ia., in 1893, and to this union were born three children: Nellie Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and Beulah Idella and Maybelle Clara, who with his wife, survive him. He united with the Methodist church of this city at an early age and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and His teachings. For the past two years he has gradually declined in health, was always hopeful and patient in his suffering. The last few weeks he had rapidly grown weaker, and last Sunday contracted pneumonia, which he was unable to overcome. The end came peacefully on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. He was a loyal member of the I.O.O.F. of this city. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and always had a pleasant word for everyone.

Those present at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Booth, of Princeton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Stanley, of Des Moines; Miss Adah Stanley, of Davenport; and Miss Nellie Clifford and Raymond Renaud, of Lynnville.
