DOROTHEA HENEKE

Dorothea H. Heneke, 90, of Dewitt, formerly of Grinnell, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.

A service of Christian burial will be held Friday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt with the Rev. Brad Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, or to St. John Lutheran Church, Grinnell. Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Welton to Henry Richard and Martha Amelia Francks Jebsen. She was a 1937 graduate of Welton High School after which she was employed at Sears Saddlery in Davenport, a manufacturer of defense equipment; which later became the Rock Island Arsenal.

She was united in marriage with Myron Heneke on April 16, 1944, at St. John Lutheran church in Preston. They made their home in Bryant where her husband was in partnership in the Naeve Hybrid Seed Corn Company. They farmed in Camanche from 1955 until 1957 when they moved to Grinnell after purchasing the Sureway Seed Corn Co. She served as secretary-treasurer of the company and also as a homemaker. They retired in 1980.

She was a long-time active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Grinnell where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a member and president of Mary/Martha Circle as well as other offices in the church. She also was a member and president of Beta Sigma. Her husband died in August 1994. She moved to DeWitt in 2001 where she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter Darla Pearce of Grinnell and son Dale Ullestad-Heneke of Ames; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Donald and Vernon, and her sisters, Irene Bennis, Regina Lazaro, Lanor Braet, Margaret Lang and Opal Lasack.
