MILDRED K. VULYSTEKE

Mildred Kester Vulysteke, 88, of Grinnell died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. George Salnave, pastor of the Montezuma Presbyterian Church, officiating. Pianist was Kathleen McCune. Vocal music was by Rhonda Minner. Pallbearers were Trent Arment, Curt and Shawn Cox, Cody Guyer and Bob, Don and Ron Taylor. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grinnell Senior Center.

The daughter of Dennis and Ola Conger Grovenburg Sr., she was born April 9, 1916, in Grinnell. She attended Grinnell schools and was married Aug. 29, 1932, in Grinnell to Maurice Kester. She was employed at the Grinnell Shoe Factory, Grinnell Canning Company and later for Cargill. Following the death of her husband in 1976, she was married to Victor Vulysteke on Feb. 7, 1981, in Grinnell where they continued to make their home. She was a member of Oak Grove Friends Church, Rebekah Lodge and the Grandmother's Club. She had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since 1991.

She is survived by two sons, David Kester of Montezuma and Frank Kester of Grinnell; three stepchildren Marilyn VanderMorrtel of Moline, Ill., Bud Vulysteke of Marengo and Vic Vulysteke of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Lust of Newton and Shirley Lillie of Montezuma, and one brother, Keith Grovenburg of Oakland Acres. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Betty Taylor; one stepdaughter, Kay Perrin; two brothers Dennis Grovenburg Jr. and Ernest Grovenburg; one sister, Helen Strand and four grandchildren.
