HENNY HILKE MEMORIAL SET

Henny K. Hilke, 91, of Grinnell died Sunday, Feb. 14, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Hilke's name may be made to St. Francis Manor and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Hinrich and Dorothea Schmidt Baetjer, she was born on April 2, 1896, in Hamburg, Germany. She received her education in German public schools and later became a piano teacher.

She was married to Heinz Hilke in 1921, and the couple emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Chicago. They moved to Grinnell in 1934 where Mr. Hilke operated a planing mill. Mrs. Hilke became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. on May 6, 1946, in Des Moines. She was a member of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational.

Surviving are her son, Ronald of Placerville, Calif.; a daughter, Ingrid Ling of Waveland, Miss.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1941; an infant son; and two brothers, Erwin and Albert Baetjer.
