FUNERAL RITES FOR WILLIAM DITTMER

William Theodore Dittmer was born in Germany, May 3, 1850. At the age of 17 he came to America. Twenty-six years ago he became a citizen of Grinnell, which has since been his home. He was a skillful florist, and is best known to the Grinnell people for his flowers. He was a natural lover of the beautiful things that grow, and his work was his pleasure. He passed away quietly, July 29, without a struggle and apparently without pain. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Matilda Dittmer, one son, Mr. Theodore A. Dittmer of Quincy, Ill., one daughter, Mrs. Lena Myers, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One daughter, Lillian (Mrs. Emery A. Boren) died several years ago. He was an honored citizen, a good friend, and a pleasant neighbor. Services were held yesterday at his home, 527 Spring street, conducted by Edmund M. Vittum. He was *buried with Masonic honors, of which order he has long been a highly esteemed member.

Their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Dittmer from Quincy, Ill., Mr. and W.J. Myers from Davenport, E.E. Boren and son from Grundy Center, Mrs. H. Bricker from LaGrange, Mo., Mrs. Bringer, Mrs. McAdams and children from Keokuk, Mr. and Mrs. C. Carpenter from Davenport, Mr. John Genevay and son from Des Moines, were among the out of town people who attended the funeral.
