HEWITT SERVICES HELD

Elsie Gladys Hewitt, a native of Grinnell, died in her home at 920 Ash Ave. in Ames Sunday evening, June 22.

Funeral services for Elsie Gladys were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Lindholm officiating. Burial was Thursday at 3 p.m. in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, with the Rev. James P. Russell of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Born Jan. 16, 1890, in Grinnell, she was the daughter of J.T. and Elsie Jane Brown Cessna. She attended public schools in Grinnell and Grinnell College, transferring after two years to Iowa State College in Ames. She graduated from that institution in 1915.

She was in the millinery business in Iowa and California before 1942.

On June 7, 1942, she married Henry M. Hewitt of Des Moines in Columbia, Mo. After ten years in Des Moines the couple moved to Ames, where she resided until her death.

She was a member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, the Des Moines Women's Club, Chapter HN, P.E.O., and Sun Dial Chapter D.A.R.

She is survived by her husband; her stepson, Charles Hewitt of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred C. Stoddard of Monticello, Ill., and Mrs. Blythe C. Vance of 111 Lynn Ave., in Ames; and two granddaughters.

Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
