MRS. N.W. CESSNA IS CALLED

Former Resident of Grinnell Passed Away Last Sunday in Patton, California

It is with sincere regret that we learn today of the death of Mrs. Newton W. Cessna, who died Sunday in Patton, Calif. Her illness was of short duration. She suffered a stroke the 24th of August at her home in Pasadena, and she was removed in an ambulance to the home of her daughter in Patton, Calif., on Sept. 10th so that she could be given better care and in order that her physician could keep better watch of her, but it was of no use and she died on the morning of Sept. 16.

There are a large circle of friends in and around Grinnell who will learn of her death with sadness and she will be greatly missed. The following account of Mrs. Cessna's death was received by Mrs. J.W. Swaney:

Nancy Stouffer Skiles was born in Scott county, Iowa, being the youngest of five children. She was married December 23, 1882, to Newton William Cessna, and moved to a farm north of Grinnell in March, 1884, and to Grinnell in 1896. Partly because of her poor health, the family moved to California in July, 1917. For a while they lived with their daughter, Pearl, in Fresno, but later moved to Pasadena, where they have lived for the last seven years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. F.C. Kellogg of Fowler, Calif., and Mrs. C.M. Tarver of Patton, Calif. One daughter, Ruby, died at the age of five years.

She is also survived by one brother, Dr. H.P. Skiles of Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. C .W. Campbell of Newton, Iowa.

Mrs. Cessna had been in better health than usual for the past year until she suffered a stroke. During her residence in Grinnell she was active in the Methodist church, the Cemetery Association, and the Sunset club.

The funeral was held at Pasadena Tuesday, Sept. 18, and burial was in Mountain View cemetery, Pasadena.
