FRED S. PAUL DIES SATURDAY

Gilman (Special) -- Fred S. Paul, who had been in poor health several years, died of a heart attack Saturday night in Mercy Hospital, Marshalltown, where he had been a patient only since Friday night.

Born June 30, 1900, he was the son of David and Linnie Green Paul. He was born in Greencastle Township, Jasper County, where he grew up and attended the rural schools.

Following World War I he enlisted in the U.S. Army, spending three years in the Philippines.

On Jan. 21, 1924, he married Anna Dressen. They established their home on a farm in Jasper county, but later moved to Des Moines and still later to Chicago where he was employed by the International Harvester Co. They returned to Gilman in 1945 where they have since resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul were the parents of five children: Fred, who is with the U.S. Navy; Mrs. Richard (Betty) Knockle, of Elkhart, Ind.; Wanda, who has a government position in Washington, D.C.; James, of Monmouth, Ill., and David of Iowa State College, Ames. Besides his widow and five children, the deceased is survived by four grandchildren.

Services are pending, awaiting the arrival of the son, Fred.
