Obituary dated Jan. 3, 1928

SEARSBORO MOURNS MRS. SUSAN MITCHELL

Searsboro, Ia., Jan. 2, Special:

Susan Mitchell, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Sheridan, was born Aug. 29, 1844, in Randolph Co. Ind., where she spent her childhood days. She died at her home in Searsboro, Dec. 31, 1927, where she has lived for the last 45 years of her life.

She came to Iowa from Indiana, when she was about 12 years of age, and settled in Sugar Grove, near Taintor, Iowa, where she lived until they moved close to Lynnville.

She was married to Robert W. Mitchell, Dec. 29, 1867. To this union were born 5 children, Charles, Luella, Truman, Oliver and James, all of whom have preceded her to the better world, except Chas. of Searsboro, who is left to mourn her loss.

She had six sisters and two brothers, Bert Sheridan of Bozeman, Mont., Chas. Sheridan of Emporia, Kansas, Martha Baker of Gas, Kansas, Ellen Windor, of Harlan, Iowa, Myra McKinley of Pasadena, Calif., Emma Boyle of Lynnville, Iowa, Hettie Stanley of Lynnville, Ia., and Lizzie Overman of Philomath, Oregon. All have preceded her in death except Hettie Stanley and Lizzie Overman.

One who has always lived in her home said of her: "Grandmother has always lived a good Christian life." A large company of relatives and friends gathered at the Friends Church, Monday morning to pay their last respects to "Aunt Susan," as she was affectionately called by almost every one who knew her. Rev. Chas. O. Whitely of Oskaloosa, Yearly Meeting Supt. of the Friends' church, conducted the funeral services, assisted by Rev. Samuel Jackson, and Rev. G.L. Stanley, the latter being a nephew of the deceased.

Some of her favorite hymns were sung by a quartette composed of Mr. Copeland, Mrs. Orcutt, Mrs. Allee, and Mr. Bowen with Mrs. Bowen at the piano. Interment was in the Searsboro cemetery.
