When only 9 months old his father and mother left North Carolina and came and settled in Poweshiek county, where he grew to manhood, learning the trade of blacksmith and operating a shop at Montezuma for some years. He spent a good part of his life in other parts of this state but always felt that this county was more or less his home. A year or so ago he came to Grinnell and has resided here ever since. Monday, March 17, he was injured in an accident, and altho everything was done for his recovery, he peacefully passed away Wednesday of last week.

He leaves to mourn their loss his wife and 6 children, Lorin, Mary, Ethel, Luther, Naomi and Lyman, four sisters, Mrs. M.C. McDonald, Mrs. J.C. Quire, Mrs. D.M. Ditzler and Mrs. Charles Mitchell, and two brothers, Joseph Tucker and Charles Tucker.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wm. Welsh. Three favorite hymns, "Not Now, but in the Coming Years," "Have Thine Own Way" and "When My Life Work Is Ended," were sung. Pall bearers were Ernest Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Floyd Ditzler, James Reagen, Horace Ent and Lew Ent.
