MATTHEW CARROLL

Matthew Carroll was born at Dublin, Ireland, Dec. 25, 1830. He came to America in 1853.

He enlisted at Seneca, Ill., in Co. F, 53 Reg. Ill. Vol. at the begining of the Civil War and served until the close. He was married to Hannah Dorgan at Marcelline, Ill., Sept. 21, 1865. He came to Iowa in 1867. He settled (in) Jasper county. In 1870 he moved to Marshall county where he resided until 1886, when he came to Sheridan, Poweshiek county, where he made his home until two years ago when he moved to the home where he has since resided one mile west of the city.

His wife died March 24, 1898. The nine surviving children were all present at the funeral. He was in his ususal good health Sunday evening and when the children went to his room to call him for breakfast next morning he was dead. The doctor was called and he pronounced it heart failure.
