MRS. HANNAH CARROLL

Died, Thursday, at 9:30 P.M., March 24, 1898, at her home in Sheridan, Hannah, beloved wife of Matthew Carroll, in the 51st year of her age.

The deceased, Hannah Dorgan, was born in Cork, Ireland, October 16, 1847. Came to America with her parents at the age of 3 years. Lived at Ottawa, Ill., where she grew to womanhood. On September 21, 1865, she was united in marriage to Matthew Carroll. Two years later they moved to Jasper county, Iowa, where they lived until 1874, when they moved to Marshall county, moving to Sheridan, Poweshiek county, in 1887, where they have since resided. Eleven children were born to them, all of whom survive her except one," Little Grace," who died in 1882 at the age of ten months. She was a consistent christian and member of the Catholic church. By her pure, unselfish character toward all, her memory will live forever in the hearts of her family, friends and neighbors. She had been a sufferer of cancer of the stomach for seven long months but bore all the untold sufferings with out a murmur. She lived for those she loved, always thinking and planning for their comfort and happiness, and they have repaid her with all that loving husband and children can do. But at last the Angel of Death closed those weary eyes in the sleep that knows no waking on this side of the grave. But in God's holy word they have the full assurance if they follow the example she set before them there will be no vacant chairs in the family circle in heaven. She leaves a husband, five sons, five daughters and three sisters to mourn her departure, all of whom were present at the funeral except one daughter and one sister.

The funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Tama, Saturday, 10 A.M., conducted by Father Carroll. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery followed by large concourse of friends and neighbors.
