GEORGE CRITCHETT, FORMER GRINNELLIAN, DIES IN DES MOINES

George B. Critchett, 63, Des Moines, died in a hospital there Monday of a stroke.

He was a well-known former Grinnellian.

Funeral Services for Critchett were held this afternoon (Thursday) in Adel. Burial was also in Adel.

Critchett was born in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell College in 1925. He was a football backfield star and captained the Pioneers during his senior year. He was also on the basketball team.

Critchett had been associated with the Critchett Piano Company in Des Moines the past 15 years. Before that, he taught and coached in schools in Perry, Denison, Indianola and Waukee. He was also a golf pro at the Perry Country Club for 10 years while teaching and coaching there.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Northwest Des Moines Lions Club and Des Moines Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen; one daughter, Mrs. Joy Schacht of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Bert of Des Moines, Bruce of San Antonio, Texas, and Fred of Capistrano Beach, Calif; and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Simonsen of Ruthven and Mrs. Ida Auten of Newton.
