HENRY STAHL RITES TODAY

Henry Edward Stahl, 71, of Malcom died Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Henry F. and Fannie Swain Stahl, he was born Oct. 26, 1900, in Chester Township. He attended rural schools and farmed with his father for several years. He joined the Chester Congregational Church in 1910, and later taught Sunday School there.

Mr. Stahl was married to Esther Fry June 14, 1922, at Strawberry Point. The couple lived in the Chester and Sheridan communities until 1940, when they moved to their farm south of Grinnell. They had lived in Malcom the past five years.

Mr. and Mrs. Stahl had seven children, four of whom survive: Mrs. Lamar (Lorraine) Stanley of Kelley, Lyle of Nevada, Keith of Malcom, and S-Sgt. Norman Stahl of Travis AFB, Calif. Preceding their father in death were a son and daughter, Howard and Margaret, both in 1930, and a son, Raymond, in1950. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Homer (Mae) Sears and Mrs. Valere (Fannie) Lavent.

Survivors, in addition to his children, include his wife Esther; his daughters-in-law, Barbara, Marilyn and Joan; eight grandchildren, James Stanley of Flint, Mich., Leslie Stanley of Kingsville, Tex., Sharon Stanley of Kelley, Deborah and Elizabeth Stahl of Nevada, Jodie Stahl of Malcom and Beverley and Stephen Stahl of California; four great-grandchildren in Flint, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Stahl were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Austin G. Rugger, pastor of the Malcom Community Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and Flowerbearers were Mrs. Worth Belden and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dexter. Pallbearers included Evan Gwin, Larry Gwin, Wayne Gwin, Wendall Gwin, Donald Sears, and Kenneth Sears. Burial was in Chester Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Multiple Schlerosis Society, Eastern Iowa Chapter, Cedar Rapids.
