ARMY BUDDIES ARE PROMINENT AT REDRICK FUNERAL

Veteran's organizations had a prominent part in the funeral services of Robert Riley Redrick, which were held from the Smith Funeral Home Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. William Welsh. The American Legion had charge of the graveside services and the pallbearers, all members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, were A.M. Barr, W.C. French, Russell George, Harlan Inman, Earl Jenkins and Earl Mintle. Music was provided by Mrs. Margery Bouma and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster.

Mr. Redrick, a Negro, served in the U.S. army during World War I as a member of Co. F, 804th Pioneer Infantry and was in France from Sept. 14, 1918, to July 17, 1919. He was honorably discharged July 17, 1919.

The Legion firing squad, in charge of C.H. Dimit, included R.B. See, John Peters, Tom Sanders, Eldon Olds, Dan Reynolds and Ed Jantzen. Buglers were Floyd Pugh and Russell George.

Robert Riley Redrick, son of Robert R. and Mary Redrick, was born in Grinnell Feb. 21, 1887, and died in a local hospital Jan. 31, 1945, aged 57 years, 11 months and 21 days. With the exception of about seven years his whole life was spent in Grinnell.

He was a veteran of the first World War, seeing service in Europe, and received an honorable discharge.

Among other positions, for several years he was a caretaker of the Elks lodge.

He is survived by his widow, Carrie, and four sons by a former marriage. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters, besides other relatives and friends.

He was buried at Hazelwood beside his father and mother, who preceded him several years ago.
