Newspaper Obituary dated Aug. 22, 1905

W.H. KEYES

Wm. H. Keyes was born in the state of New York on Nov. 5, 1848, and passed away at his home south of this city on the 13th of August 1905, so was nearly 57 years old. He was married at Ogdensburg, N.Y., to Miss Beulah Adams in 1868. To this union were born six children--three boys and three girls. One child--a daughter--preceded the father in death, the wife and other children remaining to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father.

The funeral services which were attended by a large number of friends of the of the deceased, were held from the home last Tuesday afternoon at half past two o'clock and were conducted by the Rev. J.M. McClelland. Beautiful music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. A.D. Woodruff, Mrs. E.F. Case, Mr. C.W. Benson and Mr. C.L. Gardner. The pallbearers were Messrs. L.P. Spooner, (?) Pilgrim, John Murphy, Wm. Bortell, J.D. Boyack and J. Wisecarver. The remains were laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mr. Keyes was a hard working, industrious man who met the duties of every day life without complaint and with courage and faith. He labored hard to provide his family with the material things which to help make life's happiness and he leaves them the riches heritage of a good name and a manly example.

Mr. Keyes had established a reputation for honesty and fairness during his residence of a considerable period in Poweshiek county and he leaves a large number of warm friends among his neighbors and acquaintances who sympathize with the family in their hour of sorrow.
