The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Feb. 18, 1896

--The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Black took place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the Baptist church, the services were conducted by the pastor Rev. Geo. M. Adams. Mrs. Black was born in Searsport, Maine, March 14th, 1834 and was married to Mr. C.M. Black Aug. 19, 1854. Her husband spent some time at sea. In 1857 they came to Grinnell where their home has been since. Mr. and Mrs. Black united with the Baptist church March 4th, 1860. She was a member of the W.R.C. and took great interest in the G.A.R. of which her husband was a member. The pall bearers were Prof. L.F. Parker, A.F. Barnes, F.W. Porter, J.M. Dawson, A.C. Harrison, I.B. Baldwin.
