MR. BIANCALANA RITES TODAY

Maurice J. Biancalana, 47, of 1120 Main St., Grinnell, died suddenly Friday a.m. while working at a Newton construction site.

Death was attributed to a heart attack.

The mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Biancalana was celebrated at 9 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry H. Linnenbrink officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Pat Boat, Larry Bryan, Jack Byers, John Garner, Paul Green, and Mel Rummelhart. Honorary bearers were Byron Damman, Mel Guerts, Gerald Hagen, Willard Hagen, Gordon Haworth, Brad Jones, Alvin Sheeler, and Kenneth J. Thompson.

Graveside rites were conducted by the Rev. Arie Blok of Everly, Ia. Military rites were conducted by members of the Milford American Legion, with burial at the First Reformed Cemetery near Everly.

The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.

The son of Valenti and Zita Parenti Biancalana, he was born Feb. 2, 1930, at Glenwood. He was graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947. Mr. Biancalana served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

On May 24, 1953, he was married to Alice Kaiser near Everly. Mr. Biancalana was employed by Safeway Food Stores at Fort Dodge, Maryville, Mo., and Marshalltown. In 1959, he came to Grinnell and managed the former Safeway Store here. He was employed by the Damman Ditching Co. of Newton at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge, the Francis Gallagher American Legion Post in Brooklyn, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; two children, Valarie and Tony, both of Grinnell; his mother, a resident of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Laura) Hoffman, also of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Roy.
