DELORES WEAVER

Delores Mayo Weaver, 70, of rural Grinnell died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 16, at Smith Funeral Home with pastor Carol Myers of Malcom-Sheridan Parish of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Music was by Barbara Graham, pianist, and Mary Whitehead and Jim Weaver, vocalists. Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Jason Kane; John Whitehead; Alli Ann, Abbi Sue, Casey and Cody Weaver; Mary, Robert and Jessica Widmer; Crystal Allgood and Dylan and Kyle Maas. Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery near Grinnell. Memorials may be made to the Grinnell Goodfellows Fund, PO Box 203, Grinnell IA 50112.

She was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Sheridan Township to Charles and Bernice Haynes Mayo. She was raised on the family farm and attended Sheridan Township rural school. Following graduation from Grinnell High School she received the bachelor of arts degree in education from William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She also received the master's degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.

In August of 1955 she was married to Fred Weaver Jr. at Sheridan Methodist Church. The couple farmed in Chester Township. Following their divorce, she lived in Grinnell and taught elementary education in the North Mahaska School District for 28 years.

She was a member of Sheridan Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Iowa State Education Association.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Whitehead of rural Kellogg and Diane Maas of Toledo, two sons, Jim Weaver of Mitchellville and Mark Weaver of rural Grinnell; an adopted daughter, Sandi Testa of rural Kellogg; her companion, Ernie Wilcox of Montezuma; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and four brothers, Donald Mayo of Stephenville, Texas, Paul Mayo of Fort Worth, Texas, and Roger Mayo of Edwardville, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents.
