FRED L. WEAVER

Fred "Fritz" Weaver, 84, died of Alzheimer's disease Tuesday, Jan. 16, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace of the Chester Congregational Church officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were James and Beth Weaver.

Pallbearers were Rex Kirby, Virgil Stanley, Max Stanley, Donald Weaver, Doyle Weaver and LaVern Weaver. Honorary bearers were Howard Davis, James W. Fuller, Walter A. "Jake" Barnes, Harvey Harris, Merle Harris, Richard Sears, Clarence Scobee, Walter Schueler and T.S. Weaver.

Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The son of Fred W. and Anna McClain Weaver, he was born Dec. 5, 1905, north of Sully. He moved with his family to Gilman in 1910 and attended school there, graduating from Gilman High School in 1925.

He was married to Ida Madeline Barr at her parents' home near Kellogg on Feb. 14, 1932. The couple farmed near Gilman, moving to a farm in Chester Township in 1945. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Chester Congregational Church and the Poweshiek County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; six children, Fred L. Jr. and Warren E., both of Grinnell, Garry of Chicago and Roger of Williamsburg; two daughters, Dolores Harrison of Dallas, Texas, and Marilyn Merkel of Plano, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Stanley of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Elmer, Harold, Howard, John and Frank; and one sister, Alma Kirby.
