IDA WEAVER

Ida Madeline Weaver, 85, died Sunday, May 16, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and vocalists were Jim Weaver and Mary Whitehead. Pallbearers were Dan Isaacson, Steve Merkel, Scott Raue, Mark Weaver, W. Scott Weaver and Kevin Widmer.

Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The daughter of Sam Leland and Ethel Ladora Milligan Barr, she was born March 28, 1914, on the family farm in Jasper County. She attended Grinnell High School.

On Feb. 14, 1932, she was married to Fred L. "Fritz" Weaver Sr. at her parents' farm home near Kellogg. They farmed near Gilman for several years prior to moving to their farm in Chester Township in 1945.

Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker and was also employed for 13 years as a telephone operator at Grinnell College. She moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 1993 and had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since July 1997.

She was a member of the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship and the Chester Bible Builders. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Friendly Folks.

Surviving are her children, Fred L. Jr. of Grinnell, Dolores Harrison of Tucson, Ariz., Marilyn Merkel of Plano, Texas, Warren of Grinnell, Garry of Chicago and Roger of Williamsburg; one sister, Laurine Wortendyke of Chicago; three brothers, John Barr of Grinnell and Floyd and Frank Barr, both of Kellogg; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Owen and Chester Barr.
