IRA BRANDT SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Ira Brandt, 84, of 1423 Reed St., Grinnell, who died Dec. 9 at Grinnell General Hospital, were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, and Tom Good, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends Church, officiating.

Organist was Mrs. Eugene Holley, and pallbearers were M.C. Brooks, Ola Gildersleeve, Virgil Lincoln, Albert Neighbors, Bert F. Wells, and Rolla Whitaker. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Warren Lincoln and Mrs. Albert Neighbors.

Graveside rites were conducted by Don Baker, commander, W.K. Richardson, chaplain, and members of the Veterans Ceremonial Unit of Grinnell.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Nicholas and Walzie *Freekan Brandt, he was born Feb. 28, 1890, at Otley, Iowa. He attended rural schools near his home. On Feb. 4, 1920, he was married to Mamie B. Paul in the Presbyterian Church parsonage in Grinnell. The couple had two sons, S-Sgt. Delmar Brandt, who died Jan. 24, 1945, in Burma while serving with the U.S. Air Force, and Marvin Wayne Brandt, who died in infancy.

Following their marriage, Mr. Brandt worked on a farm for several years, and later he and Mrs. Brandt farmed near the Blue Point community south of Grinnell. In 1959 they moved to Grinnell. During World War I, Mr. Brandt served with the U.S. Army. He had attended the Oak Grove Friends Church, and recently the Grinnell First United Presbyterian Church. He was a 40-year member of the American Legion in Grinnell. He was also a member of the World War Barracks and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lavern (Margaret) Morrison of rural Grinnell; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Dora) Thompson of rural Grinnell and Mrs. Alfred (Nettie) Paul of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his two sons, his parents, and one brother, James Brandt.
