RALPH SKARIN SERVICES HELD

Ralph Skarin Sr., 45, of Brooklyn died Saturday morning, July 17, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Fred Pierce of the Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Betty Everist, and soloist was Sybil Kelley.

Pallbearers were Tom Law, John Griffin, Joe Melnichak, Mike Shutts, Owen Wenger and Jack Grier.

Military rites were conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post No. 294, with burial at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The son of Elmer and Esther Lind Skarin, he was born Sept. 22, 1936, at Arthur. He received his education at the Arthur School, military police school at Ft. Gordon, Ga., recruiting school at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind., and the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Mr. Skarin served with the U.S. Army from November 1953 to October 1956. He worked for farmers as a truck driver from October 1956 to July 1961. From then until August 1978, he served with the U.S. Army again, retiring in 1978 and moving to Brooklyn. He worked there for the DeGeeter Oil Co. and later became night marshal for Brooklyn.

He was married to Lucinda (Sue) Ely on March 6, 1972, at Elk Point, S.D. Mr. Skarin was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Francis Gallagher American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Candace and Joel; two sons by previous marriage, Ralph Jr. of Onawa and Ronnie of Texas; his parents; four brothers Boyd of Sioux City, Charles of Shell Knob, Mo., Lester of Onawa and Terry of Fort Worth, Texas; and three sisters, Luella Mae Clauson of Boone, Marjorie Lindgren of Schaller and Marion Gregg of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
