F.P. FURBER MEMBER OF PIONEER FAMILY
------------------------------------
Furber Family Came Across Prairie to Grinnell in 1859, in Stage From Iowa City.
------------------------------------

Frank P. Furber was born in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, September 23, 1852, and departed this life May 4, 1924, aged seventy-one years.

In 1859, at the age of seven years, Mr. Furber with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Furber, his brother, Fred, and his sister, Sarah, came to Grinnell and became one of the well remembered pioneer families of this community. At that time the railway terminal was at Iowa City and the journey from Iowa City to Grinnell was made by stage, across the prairie.

In earlier life, Mr. Furber was a farmer and resided on the Furber farm one mile north of Grinnell, but in 1894, with his parents and sister, he moved to the residence on north Main street, which has ever since been his home. Here he lived a quiet, retiring life, in peace and friendsip with his fellowmen and respected for his honest, and upright life by all who knew him.

About two weeks ago he was stricken with an illness, which in spite of expert care, proved fatal and he departed this life on Sunday morning, leaving his brother, Fred, as sole survivor of this pioneer family.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Todd at the Fred Furber home on West street and the remains were laid to rest beside the parents and sister in Hazelwood. The pall bearers were Geo. H. Hamlin, George Brown, I.S. Bailey, Dennis Mulcahy, M.C. Parish and Grant Inman.
