WALTER OLTROGGE

Walter H. Oltrogge, 74, of Rte. 4, Grinnell, died of respiratory arrest Monday, Aug. 16, at his home.

An Elks Lodge funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home. Private family interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Malcom. The Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is in charge of arrangements.

He was the son of Fredrick Henry and Nellie Johnna Graff Oltrogge and was born June 19, 1925, in Grinnell. He was raised on the family farm and was a 1942 graduate of Grinnell *College.

He was married to Audrey Austin June 19, 1949, in Nashua. They farmed east of Grinnell, and Mr. Oltrogge remained active in farming until his death.

He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge and the Farm Bureau, and he was a past officer of Malcom Cooperative Elevator.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Cindy Kriegel of Malcom; one son, Fritz of Grinnell; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Kenneth of Pioneer, Calif.; and two sisters, Martha Arnold of Waterloo, Ill., and Matilda Walters of Big Red, Calif.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grinnell Elks Lodge or the American Lung Association.

CORRECTION: (Herald-Register; Aug. 23, 1999) An obituary for Walter H. Oltrogge, 74, of rural Grinnell incorrectly stated that he was a 1942 graduate of Grinnell College. Mr. Oltrogge was a 1942 graduate of Grinnell *High School.
