FRANK JUDKINS

James Franklin Judkins was born in Danville, Vermont, Jan. 16, 1850 and died in Grinnell, Iowa, June 20, 1918, aged 68 years, 5 months and 4 days. He moved to Neponset, Ill., when five years old with his parents, brothers and sisters and half-brother, the late Dr. E.W. Clark. When 19 years of age he came to Grinnell, Ia., where he resided until his death. On Oct. 19, 1879 he was united in marriage to Julia Louisa Denison. To this union three sons were born, Louis F., who has made his home in Tennessee the last eight years, and who nursed him in the last month of his illness; Rupert A., now in the service of his country in the medical department of the base hospital at Camp Cody, N.M., and Dr. Chester D., now practicing at Roland, Ia.

He is survived by his wife and three sons, one half-brother, Richard, and a half-sister, Mrs. Sophia Drew, who both reside in California, also a brother, William H., and a sister, Marion, the nurse, who reside in Grinnell. A sister, Mrs. Sarah Dougherty, lives in Okaton, S.D.

With his wife he accepted the doctrines and faith of the Seventh Day Adventists in 1882, with whom he remained during his life. The last six months of his life his mind dwelt especially on religious things. He mentioned the nearness of the Saviour to him. He confessed his sins and made peace anew with God. He sleeps awaiting the call of the life giver in the morning of the resurrection.

He was well known in this section and was highly respected for his honesty, integrity and hospitality.

Funeral services were conducted at the Adventist church on North Spring street by Elder A.R. Ogden, president of the Iowa S.D.A. conference.

Dr. C.R. Judkins of Roland, Iowa, came down to attend the funeral, as did also Rupert Judkins who is a nurse in the base hospital at Camp Cody. The latter spent part of his furlough visiting his brother at Roland. He returns tomorrow to Camp Cody.
