--J.S. Winterstein was born near Sandusky, Ohio, May 27th, 1829, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Perry Altig, Wednesday, Feb. 6th, 1901, after an illness of only two days. In 1872 he moved to Poweshiek county and resided in Grinnell for about 20 years, moving from here to Marshalltown in 1892. After seven years' residence there he removed to Chicago in 1899 where he has since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J.E. Travis. He came here in September to visit friends and relatives in this vicinity and was in his usual health until Monday morning, Feb. 4th, when he was attacked by prusi pneumonia, death resulted from heart failure. The funeral services were held this afternoon at one o'clock, interment being at Westfield, Rev. G.E. Morphy officiating. Those present from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Travis, and Mrs. J.S. Winterstein, of Chicago, D.N. Winterstein, of Belle Plaine, John Blain of Montezuma and Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Winterstein, Joliet.
