MRS. LUCRETIA JUDKINS
Mrs. Lucretia Judkins died at her home in Grinnell Saturday evening. The funeral services were held Sunday, at the home, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum, of the Congregational church, and the body was laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery.
Lucetia Clark was born at Danville, Vermont, Sept. 16, 1815, and died at Grinnell, March 25, 1898. At the age of twenty-three she was united in marriage with Warren S. Clark and removed to Glover, Vermont. After the death of her first husband she was married, in 1847, to Jeremiah Judkins, and a few years later removed to the west. At the time of her death she had resided near or in Grinnell for about 30 years. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are still living. She was a loving mother, faithful to her home, brave and cheerful in all the varied experiences of a long and active life. Her last days were her best days, for her tranquility and contentment and love of home increased with advancing years. She was grateful for any kindness but self-reliant and self-helpful, almost to the day of her death. She knew but little pain and illness during her long life and died peacefully of old age, without any organic disease. Among those of her children best known to the people of Grinnell may be mentioned Miss May Judkins who has been for several years an efficient teacher in our public schools, and E.W. Clark, M.D., ex-mayor of Grinnell and trustee of Iowa College.
