MRS. H.W. MANOR DIED IN WILLIAMSBURG

(From The Williamsburg Journal-Tribune)

Mrs. H.W. Manor died at her home in Williamsburg Sunday morning after an illness that had extended over a period of several weeks, first setting in with a nervous collapse; hope for her recovery held strong until a few days before her death.

The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the M.E. church and were conducted by the Rev. H.C. Druse; the music was furnished by a selected quartet consisting of Mr. Leo. Durr, Mrs. W.D. Jones, Mrs. Lewis Howes, and Mr. C.J. Lee.

The sermon was preached by the Rev. Mr. Druse, and was a masterly elaboration of the text chosen from Mark 16:2, dwelling on the intimate meaning of the Resurrection and how fittingly it applies to the life and character of the deceased. The services were attended by a throng that overflowed the spacious church, every community being represented.

The interment was in the family lot in Oak Hill beside the body of the son who died eight years ago. The pallbearers were: Lew Perkins, C.J. Lee, R.E. Jones, Ed. Gittins, A.H. Evans, and W.D. Jones.

Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mr. Robert Manor and Mr. Alvin Manor, Carleton, Mich.; Mr. George Manor and Miss Mildred Manor, Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Windhurst, West Union; Mr. Louis Windhurst, Clermont, Minn.; Mrs. Grace Divilbiss, Chicago, Ill.; Owen Divilbiss, Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. James Wood, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Bortell, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bortell, son Donald and baby Keith, of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Reed, New Sharon; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rivers, Montezuma; Mrs. Fred Beeler, Mrs. Sadie Mowitt, and Mrs. Will Jenkins, Grinnell.

Gertrude Linder was born Sept. 21, 1880, near Montezuma, where she grew to young womanhood on the old homestead. On Dec. 20, 1898, she was united in marriage to Mr. H.W. Manor, of Carleton, Mich., and within a few months the home was established in Williamsburg. To this union were born six children. Mervin, the first born, died at the age of 18, and those left to mourn with the father and husband their irreparable loss are: Floyd, Willard, Bernice, Dorothy, and Dorcas.

She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. M.D. Windhurst, Williamsburg, two brothers, Louis Windhurst, Clermont, Mich., and Clark Windhurst, West Union, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Grace Divilbiss, Chicago.

Mrs. Manor was a lovely woman; hers was the golden character in which was never found the trace of a debasing alloy, and the goodness ever present in her speech and conduct was but the radiation from a heart in which there was no guile. She lived for her home and family, and in the great offices of wife and mother she shone with a resplendency of that fidelity and love that looked on sacrifice as a duty of the highest privilege. Her nature was refined with that spirituality for which she was so well known and so highly honored, and through all the days of all the years her influence was always ennobling. In her religious belief she was as honest as she was sincere, and her life was ever the potent force working through example. Cheerfulness and charity were her sisters, and friend and neighbor loved her as their own. She passed before her time, entered the long and winding valley in the morning of her prime--and the places she graced with love and light are tinged with grayest gloom.

To the bereaved husband, children, mother, and other relatives the heartfelt sympathies of the community are offered with all the tenderness a melting sorrow could inspire.
