MRS. MCLAIN DIES OF CANCER
Nina Stone McLain, 75, of Temple Terrace, Fla., and a former Brooklyn resident, died of cancer Nov. 3 at her home following a year's illness.
Memorial services for Mrs. McLain will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Fred Pierce of Grace Methodist Church officiating.
The body was cremated and interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Brooklyn.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steve and David McLain and Karl, Kurt and Eric Zinn. Music will be furnished by Mae Schrader and Ruth Roudabush, with Nina Bartachek at the organ. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schrader will be in charge of the flowers.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 23, 1905, in Tama County, she was the youngest daughter of Nina and George Stone. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1923 and attended Grinnell College for two years.
She married Marvin McLain in Brooklyn on Oct. 20, 1928. The couple had two children, Richard and Muriel.
They lived in the Brooklyn area until 1953, when they moved to Washington, D.C. In 1977 they retired to Florida.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn and was a charter member of the women's organization of the church. She was a member of PEO and held all offices in the chapter. She was also active in community affairs and led 4-H for 14 years.
Surviving her are her husband, Marvin, one son, Richard of West Des Moines; and a daughter, Muriel Zinn of Columbia, Mo.
Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services were also held at the Temple United Methodist Church on Nov. 6. The family suggests memorials to the Cancer Society or the Grace Methodist Church.
