ACHIEL CAMIEL WAUTERS, 83

Achiel Camiel Wauters, 83, of Victor, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, in Iowa City.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 15, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor, with the Rev. Maynard Brothersen officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Victor.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Achiel Camiel Wauters, the son of Remi and Mary LaKose Wauters, was born March 30, 1920, near Brooklyn. He received his education in rural schools near his home while living near Brooklyn.

Achiel was united in marriage to Helen Van Otegham on July 31, 1944, in Victor. The couple farmed near Malcom, Brooklyn and Hartwick before moving to Victor in 1982.

He was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Victor American Legion. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. Achiel was proud of his Belgian heritage, and he enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, and keeping busy on the farm.

Achiel was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Victor; four children, Marilyn and her husband Bob, of Brooklyn, Ron and his wife, Cherie Wauters, of Pella, Joe and his wife, Nancy Wauters, of Marshalltown, and Jerry and his wife, Rhonda, of Hartwick; two sisters, Margaret DeGeeter of Brooklyn, and Dorothy Claeys of Victor; 10 grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.
