RITES TUESDAY FOR MRS. BEAN
Mary Bean, 86, of 515 Eleventh Ave., Grinnell, died Saturday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bean will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The daughter of Oscar and Annie Harpster Carlstrom, she was born July 26, 1891, in the Chester community. She moved with her family to a farm near Grinnell and attended rural schools. She was graduated from Grinnell High School in 1910 and later taught in rural schools for six years.
On March 4, 1914, she was married to Oliver W. Bean. Following their marriage, they farmed west of Grinnell, moving to town in 1964.
Mrs. Bean was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service which she served in various capacities. She was later elected as district officer of the society, serving for seven years as secretary of literature and publications and as promotion secretary.
She is survived by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
